SKIES Unlimited: Piano Lessons

Youth of various ages and skill levels are invited to join SKIESUnlimited for this rewarding class!  Let our seasoned professional tailor your child’s weekly instruction to help him reap the benefits of piano lessons. In this class, patience, positivity and understanding work together to develop music skills, improve cognitive function, and heighten self esteem, which will set your child up for success!

Students begin playing music at the first lesson. As they progress through leveled lesson and theory books, they receive instruction in: music notation, exercise techniques, posture, dynamics, practice and memorization. Students will also receive popular music that motivates them.

This 45 minutes class helps students exercise physical dexterity and coordination in the process of developing valuable music skills. 15 minutes of independent time in the practice room set students up for success during their half hour lesson.

Instructor Christine Ryktarsyk, has a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, Graduate Work in Counseling, Former School Teacher, Veteran Army Officer, Piano Accompanist and over 30 years Piano Teaching Experience. Class Description

These private piano lessons are tailored to the age, maturity and ability level of each student. The first lesson is a free half hour consult to discuss goals and expectations, review learning materials, and determine the suitability of teacher to student.

Beginner students will learn to read music and play by ear.  These are two essential skills for all musicians, which build a foundation for learning new music.  Students will learn to read rhythm and pitch patterns, recognize aural intervals, and apply their knowledge of theory.  Students will improve not only their sight-reading and listening skills but also their proficiency in learning and memorizing music.  They will expand their coordination of eyes, ears, and hands, and their ability to focus and observe.

Intermediate students will continue to build their sight reading skills as they also learn to control volume and tempo.  They’ll practice accented beats and learn to engage the “ear” through the use of dynamics (crescendo, ritardando, phrasing, etc…). They’ll build a repertoire of memorized selections.

Advanced students will set goals jointly with the teacher and determine how to measure achievement.

These Piano Lessons build on the strengths and interests of each student in order to tap into motivation.  Students progress through their lesson books as selections are played “satisfactorily” so that they may gain confidence in themselves and their musical abilities and so they receive exposure to a variety of tunes.  Students who follow their lesson notes and work through assignments for 15 minutes a day for at least 5 days a week will make noticeable improvement in their “playing.” (Students will remain in materials “leveled” for their success)

Each lesson begins with warm up exercises (which will include practicing chords and scales). The student will play his week’s assignments for evaluation and then either review or advance in his lesson book. (Supplementary material will be used as needed)  The student’s learning materials will address Theory and Techniques.

Students will receive motivational tunes to learn through memorization.

They’ll learn to play from a lead sheet.
They’ll learn to create left hand accompaniment for a treble line of music.
They’ll learn about a variety of musical styles.
