Instructional Classes With Petra McPherson

About The Instructor:

Petra McPherson has over 45 years of experience in gymnastics with additional training for teaching children and youth in aerobics, dance, and fitness. She has been coaching children and youth for over 30 years and currently coaches for a German Gymnastics team who competes competitively each year and have won many Tristate and State Championships. Petra has her coaching and skill evaluator license and has also judged gymnastics competitions. She has previously taught for military communities in Ft. Huachuca and Ramstein Air Base. Most of all Petra enjoys working with children of all ages.

 

Class Descriptions:

Little Tumblers consists of fun and challenging developmentally appropriate movement and gymnastics activities. Children use the floor, tumble track, bars, beams, skipping, hopping, and running. Participating in Creative Movement (Pre-Gymnastics) helps children develop strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and other motor skills. Children also work on body awareness, discipline, and socialization. This program is intended to be a fun way to develop basic gymnastics techniques, good physical fitness habits, and self-confidence. Children should wear clothing that allows for unrestricted movement.

Gym Rookies is for children who have little or no gymnastics experience. Physical fitness, development and/or improvement of basic gymnastic skills and concepts based on each participant‘s capabilities, are the focal points of beginner gymnastics. Students should wear clothing that allows unrestricted movement (leotards or tights). No jewelry or hair beads should be worn. Hair should be in a braid.

Advanced Gymnasts is for children who can do cartwheels, handstands and have previous experience on all gymnastics apparatus. Wear leotard and hair should be in a braid. No jewelry or hair beads.

Competitive Gymnastics classes are for children who have previous gymnastics experience, generally, at least one year above the beginner level or have the talent to improve quickly in class. Gymnasts focus on building and perfecting skills associated with Levels up to 5 and 6 according to USA Gymnastics guidelines. Students should wear gymnastics leotards; No jewelry or hair beads should be worn. Team Gymnasts will be competing in German Competitions. Hair should be in a braid.
