Explore the Island of Aphrodite on this All-Inclusive Winter Warm Up trip from Army Outdoor Recreation!
Put away your parka, you wont need it anymore after your flight to the island nation of Cyprus takes off! In January, Cyprus is gifted with average daily temperatures in the mid 60s, making a winter escape to this Mediterranean island a pleasant diversion from Germany’s winter weather. Older than the Roman Empire, older than the Athenian Greek Empire, older than Alexander’s Macedonian Empire, Cyprus was famous in the chronicles of the Mediterranean Region from the bronze and early iron ages, as well as in Greek myth as the location where Aphrodite emerged from the sea. You can visit many archaeological and cultural sites in and around Paphos, including the Tombs of the Kings and Orpheus Mosaic at Paphos Archaeological Park and Petra tou Romiou, the location of Aphrodite’s Rock.
Your Winter Warm Up in Cyprus doesn't have to be all about ancient history. Your four star beach resort is on the western coast of the island, offering you unobstructed views of the winter sun setting into the Mediterranean Sea. The hotel provides day and evening activities and entertainment for adults and children, has a heated indoor pool, a spa, a gym and more. Your all-inclusive meals package includes not just breakfast, lunch and dinner in your choice of either family friendly or adults only restaurants, but also provides you with snacks, desserts, ice cream and most beverages.
Spaces on this Winter Warm Up are limited. Contact Army Outdoor Recreation today to visit Island of Aphrodite!
Estimated Itinerary
Thursday: Flight to Cyprus
Escape Germany’s grey skies for the spring time temperatures of Cyprus, The Island of Aphrodite. Your Winter Warm Up includes a flight from Frankfurt which lands on a beautiful Mediterranean island known to experience average daytime temperatures in the mid 60s, even in January. Everything is taken care of for you from the moment you arrive at your beach front resort hotel. Your all-inclusive meals package provides breakfast, lunch and dinner in your choice of either family friendly or adults only restaurants, and also includes a selection of snacks, desserts, ice cream and most beverages throughout the day
Friday: Free Day
Your holiday weekend is exclusively dedicated to your free time, giving you the option to choose from countless activities under the blue skies of Cyprus. A beachside path runs directly from the hotel to Kato Paphos, the harbor and downtown district, allowing you to easily come and go as you wish. In Paphos, the 2017 European Capital of Culture you will find Paphos Castle, cafes, restaurants and historic churches. Many treasures have been unearthed in the Paphos Archaeology Park, including the mosaics in the Houses of Dionysos, Theseus and Aion, extremely well preserved after 16 centuries underground; the Tombs of the Kings; the Roman Agora including the pillar on which Saint Paul was said to have been whipped and the ancient Odeon Theatre
Saturday: Free Day
Paphos is home to multiple dive shops and boat charters allowing you to have fun on, in or under the water. Today is another free day allowing you to do whatever you choose in and around the sandy beaches of Paphos. The warm water temperature allows diving throughout the year and almost 20 dive sites in and around Paphos invite divers of all skill levels to take the plunge.
Sunday: Free Day
About 10 miles east of Kato Paphos you will find the village of Kouklia, formerly known as Old Paphos. Inhabited since the Stone Age, Old Paphos was one of the most famous and important sites dedicated to the worship of Aphrodite in the ancient world. The Sanctuary of Aphrodite Paphia is enshrined in the UNESCO World Heritage List and Aphrodite’s Rock is where the goddess of love was said to have risen from the sea. Legends state that anyone who swims around this exposed sea stack will be blessed with eternal beauty, but the rough waters at the base of the exposed stone tower make attempting this a bad idea. A much better idea is to set up for long exposure photography or time lapse video and capture the sun sinking into the Mediterranean Sea behind this unique rock formation.
Monday: Free Day
Your beach hotel makes it easy to forget that Cyprus is a mountainous island. A visit to the Troodos National Park with a local guide might be just the thing to take your weekend to new heights, literally. From Paphos, many local tour companies offer excursions to the olive groves, waterfalls, wineries, monasteries and tiny mountain villages perched upon the sides of Mount Olympos, Cyprus's highest peak.
Tuesday: Return to Kaiserslautern
Your return flight to Frankfurt takes off in the afternoon, allowing you to enjoy using your all inclusive package in Paphos right up until its time to leave the hotel. A direct flight to Frankfurt will have you in Germany before 8 p.m.
