Estimated Itinerary

Friday: Germany to Athens

Your long weekend starts now! Departing from your choice of Pulaski or Smith Barracks to Frankfurt to catch your morning flight, you will arrive in Athens before noon. In the heart of the city, a guided tour will acquaint you with its ancient wonders, including the symbol of the city, the mighty Acropolis, the temple-fortress dedicated to Athena, goddess of Wisdom, Civilization and Heroic Endeavor and the protector of the city. This will take you right up to hotel check-in time, maximizing every moment of your adventure from the second you land. After settling in, the evening is yours to explore.

Saturday: Hydra, Poros & Aegina

Enjoy a day at sea as we embark on an included island-hopping excursion to three unique gems in the Saronic Gulf. Our first port of call is the cosmopolitan Hydra, the jewel of the Saronic, where elegant stone mansions line a picturesque harbor and the absence of cars—replaced by donkeys and water taxis—preserves a timeless charm. From there, we sail to Poros, a romantic island of lush pine forests, separated from the mainland by a narrow channel and crowned by its iconic clock tower. Your final stop is Aegina, an island rich with ancient history, home to the magnificent Temple of Aphaia and world-famous for its pistachio groves.

Sunday: Cape Sounion & the Temple of Poseidon

This morning, we'll take a scenic drive along the glittering coast of Attica to one of the most breathtaking monuments of the Golden Age of Athens. Our destination is the majestic Temple of Poseidon, perched dramatically on the cliffs of Cape Sounion. This sacred site was dedicated to Poseidon, the mighty Greek god of the sea, earthquakes, and storms. For ancient mariners navigating the Aegean, this gleaming white sanctuary was the last sign of home they would see and the first to welcome their return. Standing among the marble columns, you can almost feel the thousands of years of prayers for safe passage carried on the sea breeze. After soaking in the unforgettable views, you will have the afternoon and evening free to continue exploring Athens at your own pace.

Monday: Free Day in Athens

The entire day is yours to use to delve deeper into Athens' vibrant heart. You can hunt for unique treasures and traditional crafts in the bustling, historic markets of Plaka, nestled right beneath the Acropolis, where centuries of history blend with charming shops and eateries. Alternatively, step back in time as you wander through the ruins of the ancient Agora, once the public gathering place and commercial hub of classical Athens, where democracy was born and great philosophers once debated. Or simply relax at a café and soak in the atmosphere of this historic capital. Your hotels access to multiple forms of public transportation put all of the city’s main attractions within easy reach.

Tuesday: Return to Germany

Your flight doesn’t depart until this evening, giving you a full morning and early afternoon to check any last sites off your list, do some last-minute souvenir shopping, or enjoy one final Greek coffee in the sun before we transfer to the airport for your flight home.
