Since the founding of the Ski Club Arlberg in 1901 people have been enjoying the slopes of Austria, but the real explosion in the sport happened in the winter of 1921 when Hannes Schneider opened the first ski school in the world. Since that momentous day, millions of people have been enjoying the mountains not just on skis but also now on sleds and snowboards and with modern ski lifts. The St. Anton ski area is considered by many to have some of the best intermediate level trails in the world, but features descents for all ability levels. More than 300 kilometers of prepared trails connect the villages of the Arlberg, and 200 kilometers of off-piste areas fill in the spaces in between. There are countless ways down the slopes of the Arlberg region for you to choose from, including legendary routes like the Valluga descent and the Schindlergrat.
