Aachen Christmas Market

#
Note: This event has already passed.

Kaiserslautern Outdoor Recreation and Baumholder Outdoor Recreation have teamed up to make it even easier for you to cross items off your European Travel Bucket List. The same adventures begin at your choice of either Smith or Pulaski Barracks.

Hosted by the city’s mascot, a giant gingerbread figure named “The Aachener Printenmann”, the Aachen Christmas Market opens for your enjoyment in November.  In the area around the cathedral and town hall, more than 120 artisans, artists, craftsmen and food stands will be a great way to get an early start on your holiday season.  The scent of the city’s traditional cookies, Aachener Printen made with a blend of spices which includes cinnamon, aniseed, clove, cardamom, coriander, allspice and ginger will fill the market square, but the exact mixture of these ingredients, is a close kept secret of each individual bakery. Aachen’s "Christmas City", awarded “Eighth Best Christmas Market in Europe for 2019” by Europeans Best Destinations is truly a paradise for the senses, which will enchant both young and old, and the carousel is as much a must for the children as Glühwein is for the adults.

Aachen is famous for much more than its wonderful Christmas Market.  Charlemagne made Aachen the political center of his empire, spent his winters and celebrated Christmas within the city and ordered the building of Aachen’s famous cathedral, where we was eventually buried.  Most Kings of the Germans were crowned in Aachen and the Free Imperial City was granted many political privileges.  In addition to Aachen’s many famous churches and monasteries, the city is home to medieval and baroque buildings, thermal spas, a zoo which is home to more than 700 animals and both a Lindt Chocolate factory and a Lindt outlet store
