What on earth is a Wurstmarkt? Literally a “sausage market”, the Bad Dürkheim Wurstmarkt is a wine festival, and is the main event of the year in Rhineland-Pfalz, and is one of the largest, most traditional and entertaining public festivals in Germany. Turning 600 years old this year, the Wusrtmarkt is still as young as ever. Have a seat in the wine stalls, or “wheelbarrows” as they are referred to by the locals, and choose from over 150 different wines from over 50 different local wineries, ranging from the mellow Riesling to the finest ice-wine, all of which will be served in a traditional half-liter glass!
