On New Year's Eve, Berliners and visitors alike celebrate the beginning of a new year with a huge open air party. The celebrations which include live bands, DJs and a spectacular fireworks display at midnight are free of charge and attract about one million people every year. The ensuing party continues until the early morning hours of New Year's Day. The celebration stretches for 2 kilometers, from Brandenburg Gate to the Victory Column. Use your freetime before the 7 p.m. start of the party to enjoy a delicious dinner, or some of Berlin’s nightlife. Just make sure you are at Brandenburg Gate when the fireworks are launched at midnight, and enjoy the party on Straße des 17 Juni afterwards which features no closing time.
