Athens, “The Birthplace of Democracy” was home to Plato, Socrates, Aristotle and Pericles and you will find reminders of the classical age everywhere in the lively city center. A tour of Athens will familiarize you with Athens’ antiquities, and your centrally located hotel in the city center will put you in position to make the most of your free time in “The Cradle of Western Civilization”. Your weekend will also include an excursion to Cape Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon as well as a day spent at sea, island hopping between Aegina, Poros and Hydra.

Estimated Itinerary

Wednesday: Kaiserslautern to Athens

Bring your suitcases with you when you leave the house this morning.  This trip doesn't waste any time getting your long weekend started!  Your flight may be later in the day, but it will put you in position to wake up in a four star hotel Athens on the first day of your holiday weekend.  

Thursday: Athens

Today you will familiarize yourself with the city on a tour of Athens. The upper city, Acropolis, invites you to climb to the Temple of Athena, the goddess of war and wisdom and namesake of the city.  Your hotel is just one block away from the Metaxourgeio Metro station, allowing you to reach the ancient Agora in just two stops and easily explore all of the historic locations of Athens.

Friday: Free Day or Cape Sounion and Temple of Poseidon

Spend the day enjoying more of Athens, or join us on a visit to one of the major monuments of the Golden Age of Athens, the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion.  Built on top of an even older ruin, the Temple of Poseidon was built during the time of Pericles and the Persian wars.  The ruins of a temple of Athena and an Athenian fortress are also located at the southern most tip of the Attic mainland.

Saturday:  Free day Free Day or Island Hopping

Continue to explore Athens today, or enjoy a day at sea visiting the islands in the Saronic Gulf.  Todays island hopping excursion will visit Aegina, Poros and Hydra by boat, giving you a taste of the Greek Islands.  

Sunday:  Free day 

Monday: Return to Kaiserslautern

After breakfast, you will transfer to the airport for your flight home.  Your late afternoon flight to Frankfurt gives you a full morning to check the last sites off your to-do list.

Cancellations:

  • 10% cancellation fee for all cancellations made on or prior to Tuesday, August 6
  • 35% cancellation fee for all cancellations made on or after Wednesday, August 7
  • 50% cancellation fee for all cancellations made on or after Friday, September 6
  • 80% cancellation fee for all cancellations made on or after Wednesday, September 18
  • 95% cancellation fee for all cancellations made on or after Tuesday, September 24
  • 100% cancellation fee for all cancellations made on or after Wednesday, October 2
     
  • In the event that a customer cancellation results in a fee charged to Outdoor Recreation, regardless of the date of or reason for that cancellation, the total sum of those fees will be passed along to the customer.
