Estimated Itinerary
3 July: Flight to Malaga
After your morning flight to Malaga, you arrive at your four star hotel and spa just in time for a Mediterranean buffet dinner. After dinner you can check out the pool bar, sauna and Turkish bath and the indoor dynamic pool, or head down to Fuengirola's 8 kilometers of beaches to take in the sunset.
4 July: Malaga
The long history of Malaga begins around 770 B.C. when the city was founded by the Phoenicians as a waypoint on their Mediterranean trade voyages, making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Europe. Through the years, Malaga has been controlled by the Carthaginians, Romans, Byzantines and Moors before being recaptured by Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain in 1487 and these multiple influences are visible in the varied architecture of the city, including the Islamic Gibralfaro Castle and Alcazaba Fortress, and the hybrid Mudejar style evident in the Church of Santiago which blends the Islamic and Gothic elements and is limited to the areas of Spain and Portugal where the Moors once ruled. Pablo Picasso was born here and the city features 28 museums and is the second busiest cruise port on the Iberian peninsula.
5 July: Gibraltar
The town and Rock of Gibraltar have been in British possession since 1704, and has always held a strategic role for the British military, being just 21 kilometers from the coast of Morocco. As one of the two “Pillars of Hercules”, it has held a mythical position in peoples minds since ancient times. From Europa Point on Gibraltar’s southern tip, you can see the African coast on a clear day. The Rock features many natural attractions, including Saint Michael’s Cave, an underground grotto featuring a sound and light show. If you take the cable car to the Top of The Rock you will find the troops of Barbary Macaques who make the nature preserve on top of the rock their home. The glass skywalk at the top of the cable car offers you 360 degree views of the Strait of Gibraltar and the African coast.
6 July: Free Day
While you may be tempted to spend the whole day at the beach, Sohail Castle is worth a visit. Overlooking the sea, Sohail Castle has been demolished and rebuilt many times in its thousand year history and has been restored to its medieval glory. You will find a SCUBA school, parasailing, boat tours and jet skis in Fuengirola, so whether you spend your day by, on or under the water, you are sure to enjoy the sea in some way.
