Wednesday: Escape to the Swiss Alps
Kick off your holiday getaway by joining Army Outdoor Recreation on our New Year’s Eve Ski Weekend trip. Don't make a fuss, just get on the bus at your choice of Pulaski or Smith Barracks. As you travel south into the spectacular Swiss Alps, lean back and leave 2026 in the rearview mirror.
Your home for the holiday is the 4-star Hotel Metropole in the heart of Interlaken, a winter-sports wonderland! Check into this luxurious and centrally located hotel, drop your bags, and shift into full vacation mode. From this base camp, you only have to step outside to explore the vibrant, illuminated streets of the downtown area and its wide variety of nightlife. Practice saying "Guten Rutsch!". This local wish for a "good slide" applies perfectly both on the slopes and in town as you slide into 2027.
Thursday: Grindelwald & The Ultimate New Year’s Eve Bash
Fuel up at the breakfast buffet, the mountain is calling. Today, you will carve up Grindelwald, riding directly beneath the towering, infamous shadow of the Eiger North Face. Whether you want to cruise wide alpine runs or hunt for fresh powder stashes, this massive resort has terrain for every skill level. For a different mountain experience, Interlaken is home to one of the world's longest sledding runs, and the First Flyer zipline, allowing non-skiers to experience alpine adrenaline.
After your first day on the mountain, trade your snow gear for party clothes. Tonight is the night! Forget hunting for a holiday dining reservation in a packed tourist town. Your table is already secured at the Metropole's signature New Year’s Eve buffet. Celebrate the countdown at their private party before Interlaken’s legendary fireworks light up the sky.
Friday: First Tracks of 2027 at Kleine Scheidegg
Start 2027 doing exactly what you love. Whether you choose to sleep in or hit the breakfast spread and grab your gear, the Jungfrau is waiting. Return to Grindelwald or conquer your second world-class ski area: Kleine Scheidegg. Both areas share the same starting point which leaves the choice of destination up to you. The very heart of the region, Kleine Scheidegg offers breathtaking panoramic views and perfectly groomed pistes that connect seamlessly across the mountain. Push your limits on the snow, take a break at a cozy Swiss mountain lodge for a delicious lunch, and spend your first afternoon of the year soaking up the epic alpine atmosphere. If you're taking it easy today, you don't have to stay at the hotel; from Kleine Scheidegg, you can board the high-altitude mountain railway straight to the "Top of Europe" at the summit of the Jungfrau.
Saturday: Mürren & The James Bond Summit
With two days on the snow already under your belt, your legs are warmed up and ready for the grand finale. Launching from Lauterbrunnen gives you the choice of another day at Kleine Scheidegg or collecting your triple crown by ascending to Mürren-Schilthorn, known for the steepest slopes in the region and incredible freeride terrain. Bringing the family? Kids under 16 ski absolutely free today! For a unique break, hop on the cable car to the summit of the Schilthorn to visit Piz Gloria. The iconic mountaintop fortress from the James Bond film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is now a panorama restaurant and James Bond exhibition. After the lifts close, enjoy Interlaken’s bustling apres-ski scene during your final night in Switzerland.
Sunday: Return to Germany
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before loading the bus for the journey home. Enjoy the majestic views as the Alps pass by your window while you lean back, relax, and swap ski stories. Arrive back at your starting point this evening rested and relaxed, full of fresh mountain memories and a clean slate for your ski season, you have officially kicked off 2027 the right way with Army Outdoor Recreation!
