Shop ‘til you drop at four of the world’s most best known Christmas Markets, on one special trip.

The most unique Christmas event of the season happens in Salzburg, Austria where you will experience the full range of Austro-Bavarian Christmas traditions. From the cathedral market to the fortress and everywhere in-between, Salzburg is an enchanting environment for Christmas shopping and sightseeing, but when the sun sets the dark side of tradition will show its face. Tonight is the notorious Krampus run when hordes of Perchten march through Salzburg, terrifying young children into behaving for another year. Don’t worry; if you leave these monsters alone, no harm will come to you.

Saturday allows you to explore everything Munich has to offer in the Christmas season. The main Christmas market is laid out in front of the old and new city halls on Marienplatz and features over 130 vendors, but a wide range of markets can be found throughout the city center, including the enormous Tollwood Winter Festival held on the Oktoberfest grounds.  After breakfast on Sunday, you will be whisked away to Nürnberg’s “Little Town of Wood and Cloth”, quite possibly the most famous Christmas Market in the world, a delightfully non-commercial Christmas shopper’s paradise where muzak and plastic are strictly verbotten. Rothenburg is the German city most closely associated with Christmas, is home to both Kathe Wolfahrt and one of the country’s oldest Christmas Markets. You can't consider your shopping spree over until you have tasted a “Rothenburg Snowball” and walked the intact medieval city walls.

Army Outdoor Recreation makes it easy to visit four famous Austrian and Bavarian Christmas Markets during the Salzburg Krampuslauf and Bavarian Christmas Markets Weekend. If you were to take day trips to each of these destinations, each one would easily cost more than $100 per person. Dont wait until the last minute, previous years trips have sold out regularly and early hotel deadlines apply.
